Andreas Goldthau

Andreas Goldthau is Lead Researcher for the Global Public Policy Institute's "Changing rules of the game: Global energy governance in the 21st century" research program. His responsibilities, in addition to project management and quality control, include conceptual development of the research project, outputs, and "Transatlantic Energy Security Dialogues" conference series; authoring policy papers and media publications; and contributing to and managing the final research volume.

Andreas is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Public Policy at Central European University, Hungary, where he also heads the Energy Security Program at CEU’s newly created Center for Environment and Security. Previously, Andreas worked as a Transatlantic PostDoc Fellow in International Relations and Security with the Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University, the RAND Corporation and the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP); as a Research Fellow with the Institute for East European Studies at the Free University of Berlin; as a Fulbright Senior Scholar with the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University; and as a Robert Bosch Visiting Lecturer with Tyumen State University in Russia. Andreas holds a joint graduate degree in Political Science from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris and Free University Berlin, a State Certificate in Russian language from Lomonossow University, Moscow, and a PhD from Free University Berlin. His current academic interests focus on energy security and on global governance issues related to oil and gas.

Among others, he held scholarships from the Fulbright Commission, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the French-German Foundation for Higher Education, the Robert Bosch Foundation and the Otto Group. Andreas has been appointed a Young Leader by the German-Russian Forum and is a member of the Tönissteiner Kreis, an association dedicated to the promotion of young international leaders.
